Description - Baraboo Hills Land Steward
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:
This position, located
in Baraboo, Wisconsin, will coordinate preserve and natural area stewardship
work with an emphasis on forest management in the Baraboo Hills Project.
Implements preserve management plans, which may include forestry, species
monitoring and research, exotic species control, prescribed burning, boundary
posting, trail and/or equipment maintenance, field trips and volunteer
stewardship workdays. Create and oversee implementation of forest management
plans in the Baraboo Hills. Plays key role in planning and implementing
logistic plans for prescribed burns in the Baraboo Hills. Assist with
prescribed burning and forest management planning at other Conservancy
properties in Wisconsin. (up to 20% of time). At selected preserves in the
Baraboo Hills will supervise tree plantings and manage grazing and agricultural
leases.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Bachelor's degree in forestry
(preferred), natural resources management, ecology, biology or related field
and at least one year of related work experience
- Experience with forest management
practices that provide desirable ecological goals, this includes reforestation
and silvicultural practices.
- Basic wildland fire training
preferred (S130/190) or willing and able to learn.
- Ability to develop timeframes and
then complete tasks within timeframes.
- Experience working with or
knowledge of natural systems of Wisconsin. Ability to recognize plant and
animal species as required to complete preserve management
activities.
- Experience supervising others in
the completion of tasks.
- Experience or ability to safely
use and maintain preserves tools and equipment, including power
tools.
- Ability to perform physical work,
sometimes under adverse conditions or in inclement weather.
- Ability to obtain related
licenses or certifications such as first aid, CPR, herbicide application,
driver's license.
- PC familiarity, including
database knowledge, in order to maintain preserve records.

SALARY RANGE:
$30,500 -
$34,000
