Starker Forests, Inc., a family
owned timberland company, has an immediate opening for a Forester in our
Corvallis, Oregon office. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with
experience and education. The position is fulltime, with benefits including
health insurance, vacation, holidays, sick leave, long term disability, life
insurance, profit sharing plan and 401K.
General Position
Description The forester will provide a wide variety of field
activities to support the intensive forest management activities of Starker
Forests, Inc.; primarily in reforestation. The position is primarily fieldwork
and candidates must be able to walk and work on steep, brush and slash covered
terrain, be able to work in all weather conditions in the Oregon Coast Range,
and be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
Duties and
Responsibilities Reforestation activities including acquiring seed
and seedlings, supervising planting and seedling protection crews, conducting
stocking surveys, supervising site preparation, and assisting with burning.
Forest inventory and vegetation management, including herbicide and
fertilization applications. Young stand management activities, including
supervising precommercial thinning and hack/squirt crews.
Desired
Qualifications BS degree in forestry or related field or
equivalent combination of work experience and education. Prefer at least one
year of experience in field forestry activities that includes reforestation,
cruising and burning. Basic forestry skills as well as knowledge of state,
federal, safety, wildlife, water, and forest practice rules. An Oregon
Pesticide Applicators License is preferred. The successful applicant will be
required to obtain one after being hired if he/she doesn't have one. Ability to
abide by established safety standards, work cooperatively as a member of a
team, respond positively to unexpected situations, and have a strong work
ethic. Functional computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft
Word, Excel, Access and ArcGIS. Experience using hand-held data recorders and
GPS recorders is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills and
analytical math skills with strong attention to detail. Ability to prioritize
work activities, manage projects, and administer contracts. Ability to speak
Spanish beneficial and preferred. Clean driving record as judged by SFI
insurance provider. No more than one moving violation in the last 3 years
allowed.
